Invalid Game Executable error: how to fix it

Caliber Support is receiving reports about invalid game executable errors. In most cases, this error occurs because the antivirus installed on the user’s computer has an outdated database and mistakenly considers the game to be unsafe. Most often, this happens with the free version of Avast antivirus. Still, there are cases of erroneous reactions to the game’s executable file by other antivirus programs: Windows Defender, Kaspersky Anti-Virus, and so on.

If you encounter the Invalid Game Executable error, please try the following:

Check that the game (the entire folder including subfolders and files) is added to the exclusions list of your antivirus.

Return the Caliber files from quarantine (if they have gone there), and then add them to the exclusions. Avast Antivirus has comprehensive instructions on this.

Update your antivirus to the latest version, and download the new, up-to-date database

Empty the temporary files folder: you can find its location by pressing Win + R, then entering the command «%temp%» or «C:\Users\%Username%\AppData\Local\Temp» (without quotes).

After these steps, restart your computer, run the Caliber launcher with administrator rights and click Restore in the launcher settings.

You can help us and other players get rid of this error.

Seeing that the issue mainly manifests with Avast antivirus, we sent requests to its developers to exclude Caliber from the list of unsafe programs. You can speed up this process if you send a similar request to the antivirus support service. They even have a special form for this.
